Clostridium tetani is a gram-positive, motile bacteria found in soil and animal feces. C. tetani produces the potent exotoxin which causes tetanus (lockjaw) in humans. The toxin blocks the activity of inhibitory interneurons leading to chronic muscle contraction, which can eventually cause respiratory failure. Tetanus toxoid is often used as a carrier for other compounds with poor immunogenicity. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
