GLA is a homodimeric glycoprotein that hydrolyses the terminal alpha-galactosyl moieties from glycolipids and glycoproteins. This enzyme predominantly hydrolyzes ceramide trihexoside, and it can catalyze the hydrolysis of melibiose into galactose and glucose. 25 ug of the indicated Human whole cell extracts was loaded onto a 12% SDS-PAGE gel. 3 ug/mL of the antibody was used in this experiment. In addition to the canonical 49 kDa isoform, the protein is processed to 45 kDa, and a smaller 23 kDa isoform also contains the peptide sequence. The protein also has several glycosylation sites.
